Taking Collection Management to the Next Level with MythicHub

Introduction

Like many Magic: The Gathering players, my journey began with a single booster pack. Over the years, my collection grew, spanning multiple formats, rare finds, and personal favorites. But managing all these cards? That’s where things got tricky. That’s why I built MythicHub – a tool designed to make MTG collection management easier, smarter, and more rewarding.

If you're new to MythicHub, welcome! I'm thrilled to have you here. MythicHub is a completely free collection management and deck building app for Magic: The Gathering. No ads, just passion for the game. Feel free to create an account and explore all the features. With this update, my goal is to deliver the absolute best collection management experience possible, giving you the tools you need to truly understand and control your collection.

If you're eager to see these new features in action, check out my collection here: My collection

I'm incredibly excited to share some powerful new features that I've added to MythicHub's collection management system! These enhancements give you more control, better insights, and a more accurate picture of your Magic: The Gathering collection. Let's dive into what's new.

Enhanced Binder Value Statistics

The binder page now provides much more comprehensive financial information about your collection:

  • Total Value: See the current market value of your entire binder
  • Acquisition Cost: Track how much you've invested in your collection
  • Gain/Loss: Instantly see the difference between market value and your costs
  • Advanced Filtering: Filter cards with or without market values, or with or without assigned prices

For Wishlist binders, you'll see total value information, while Tradelist binders show the total value of cards you're offering to trade.

I created this feature after realizing how difficult it was to track my own collection's value over time. As someone who both collects and occasionally sells cards, having this financial overview has been incredibly helpful for making informed decisions about when to buy or sell.

Binder Trend Charts

This might be my favorite new feature! A powerful new visualization shows how your collection's value has changed over the past two weeks. The trend chart includes:

  • Daily Value Points: Track value changes day by day
  • Annotated Events: See binder history entries overlaid on the chart to understand what caused value changes
  • Two Data Types: "Stored" values (calculated nightly for accuracy) and "Estimated" values (calculated on-demand)
  • Filter Support: When you apply filters, the trend chart updates to show trends for just those cards

This feature makes it easy to visualize your collection's financial performance over time and understand how your actions impact its value. It's fascinating to see how market fluctuations affect different parts of my collection.

Binder History Tracking

Every action you take with your binders is now automatically recorded in a detailed history log. This feature provides a complete timeline of your collection's evolution, including:

  • BINDER CARD CREATED Track when cards were added to your binder
  • BINDER CARD DELETED See when cards were removed
  • BINDER CARD UPDATED Monitor changes to binder card properties
  • BINDER CREATED Mark the beginning of a new binder
  • BINDER UPDATED Track changes to binder settings
  • BINDER DELETED Record when a binder is removed
  • BINDER RESTORED See when a deleted binder is restored
  • BINDER CARDS IMPORTED Track bulk imports from other platforms
  • BINDER CARDS COPIED Monitor when cards are copied from another binder
  • BINDER CARDS DELETED Record when multiple cards are deleted at once

I've designed this feature to give you complete visibility into every change that's occurred. You can access your binder history directly from any binder page by opening the "Actions" dropdown and selecting "View history". As someone who's accidentally deleted cards before, this feature has saved me countless times!

Price Change Tracking

The binder table now includes a dedicated column for price changes, giving you insights into which cards are rising or falling in value:

  • Time Period Selection: View price changes over different periods (daily, weekly, monthly)
  • Sortable Column: Easily sort to see which cards have gained or lost the most value
  • Visual Indicators: Quick visual cues show positive or negative price movement

This makes it simple to identify cards that are performing well or might be candidates for trading or selling.

Advanced Filtering Options

You can now filter your binder cards using the same powerful system from the advanced search feature. This gives you unprecedented control with filters for:

  • Card attributes (name, type, color, etc.)
  • Specific sets or formats
  • Rarity and other characteristics
  • And more!

These filtering capabilities make it easier than ever to analyze specific subsets of your collection. The best part is that the trend chart immediately updates as you filter, giving you insights into the value of your collection over time.

Auto-Assign Prices

When enabled, this feature automatically sets the current market price as the assigned purchase price when:

  • Adding new cards to a Collection binder
  • Importing cards into a Collection binder

This saves significant time for collectors who want to track their collection's value without manually entering purchase prices for every card. You can enable this setting when creating a new binder or in your existing binder settings.

Condition-Based Pricing

Another powerful addition is condition-based pricing. When enabled, the market value of your cards will automatically adjust based on their physical condition:

  • 🟩 Near Mint (NM): 100% of market value
  • 🟨 Lightly Played (LP): 90% of market value
  • 🟧 Moderately Played (MP): 75% of market value
  • 🟥 Heavily Played (HP): 50% of market value
  • Damaged (DMG): 25% of market value

This gives you a much more accurate picture of your collection's true value, especially for vintage or heavily played cards.

Enhanced Privacy Controls

I understand that collection value is personal information, so I've added granular privacy controls:

  • Show Value Publicly: Control whether others can see your binder's total value and trend chart
  • Show Assigned Prices Publicly: Determine if others can see the prices you've assigned to cards

These settings have different effects depending on the binder type:

  • For Collection binders, the assigned price is your purchase price
  • For Wishlist binders, it's your desired price
  • For Tradelist binders, the assigned price is your asking price (always visible, as that's the point of a trade list)

These privacy settings give you complete control over who can see the financial aspects of your collection.

Improved Collection Import Experience

I've completely revamped the collection import process to make it more user-friendly and informative:

  • Import Summary Dialog: After importing cards, you'll see a detailed summary showing exactly what was imported
  • Success Tracking: Clearly shows how many cards were successfully imported into your binder
  • Error Handling: Provides a list of cards that couldn't be matched, with the ability to copy them to clipboard for manual addition
  • CSV Validation: Automatically detects if your CSV file is missing required columns and shows which ones are needed
  • Historical Reference: The list of cards that couldn't be matched remains accessible in your binder history for future reference

This improvement came from my own frustration with importing large collections and not knowing which cards failed to import. Now, you'll never lose track of cards during the import process, and you can easily identify and add any problematic entries manually.

Binder Restoration Feature

This new safety net ensures you never permanently lose your carefully curated collections by mistake:

  • 30-Day Recovery Window: When a binder is deleted, it can be restored within 30 days
  • Deleted Binders Counter: The collection page now displays a "Deleted" button with a counter showing how many binders were deleted in the last 30 days
  • Restoration Management: Clicking the "Deleted" button opens a modal where you can review all recently deleted binders
  • Flexible Options: For each deleted binder, you can choose to restore it to your collection or permanently delete it
Deleted Binders Restoration Feature

This feature provides peace of mind for collectors, especially those with large collections or multiple binders. I've already found it incredibly useful after accidentally deleting a binder while reorganizing my collection!

Export Binder Cards Feature

I'm thrilled to introduce a powerful new export feature that gives you complete control over your collection data:

  • CSV Export Format: Export your entire binder to a standardized CSV file with a single click
  • Comprehensive Data: The export includes all card details including amount, name, set information, condition, finish, language, extra info, assigned price, notes, and Scryfall ID
  • Accessible from Actions Menu: Simply open the "Actions" dropdown on any binder page and select "Export cards"
  • Multiple Use Cases:
    • Create an additional backup of your collection data
    • Perform custom analysis in spreadsheet software
    • Make bulk modifications and re-import the data
    • Share your collection with friends who can import it into their own MythicHub account

What's Next?

These improvements are part of my ongoing effort to make MythicHub the most comprehensive and user-friendly Magic: The Gathering collection management tool available. As a solo developer and passionate MTG player, I'm constantly working on new features and refinements based on your feedback.

I've been using these features with my own collection for the past few weeks, and they've already helped me make better decisions about which cards to buy, sell, or hold onto. I'm particularly excited about the binder history tracking, which has saved me from accidentally losing track of valuable cards more than once!
