Octopus’s Garden

An optimized Lady Octopus list attempting to make as strong a deck with her at the helm as possible.

Lady Octopus gives you a pseudo mana-dork for artifacts, scaling up over time to be capable of cheating more expensive artifacts into play as it sees you draw cards. Essentially the value of the commander is artificial mana advantage by cheating costs, enabling wincons and lines that other decks wouldn’t consider.

Having a guaranteed T1 play with your commander is inherently valuable, and here that means turning on Louisoix’s Sacrifice, Spider-Sense, Fierce Guardianship, Flare of Denial, and Mox Amber.

The deck wants to play it lithe, stick an early engine to accrue ingenuity counters while you find all-star bomby artifacts to cheat costs on, like Coveted Jewel and Chromatic Orrery. Because the deck lacks an engine in the CZ or particularly powerful synergy, instead we want to build to play compact artifact combos we can assemble while wasting as little deck slots as we can.

Mulligan aggressively for early card draw, obviously every deck running it wants to see The One Ring, and any deck in blue wants to see Rhystic Study or Mystic Remora, but we’ll also gladly take Faerie Mastermind, Ledger Shredder, and Riddlesmith too- or any tutor you can turn into developing your gameplan.
