Enhanced Market Trends: Powerful New Tools for MTG Finance

Enhanced Market Trends: Powerful New Tools for MTG Finance

Hey everyone! I'm excited to share some significant improvements to MythicHub's Market Trends feature. As someone who both collects and occasionally trades Magic cards, I know how important it is to stay on top of price movements. These updates make tracking the MTG market easier and more flexible than ever before.

From Formats to Presets: A Better Way to Track Prices

The biggest change to Market Trends is the switch from format-based filtering to a more versatile preset system. Previously, you could only filter price changes by format (Standard, Modern, etc.), which was quite limiting. While formats are important, they don't capture all the interesting segments of the MTG market.

The new preset system offers a much more comprehensive way to track different card categories:

  • Standard: Cards from sets legal in Standard format
  • Modern: Cards from sets legal in Modern format
  • Pioneer: Cards from sets legal in Pioneer format
  • Eternal: Cards legal in Commander, Legacy, and Vintage formats
  • EDH Staples: Top 500 cards in Commander by popularity
  • Reserved List: Cards on the Reserved List
  • Secret Lair: Cards from Secret Lair drops

This improved approach focuses on the relevant printings that matter for each format. For example, while many old cards might be technically legal in Standard, players typically use the newer versions. Our previous system would show price changes for old versions that weren't actually relevant to the format's metagame. Now, you get focused data on the printings that actually matter.

Full Marketplace Support

Another major improvement is support for all major marketplaces. You can now track price trends across:

  • TCGPlayer (USD) - with both foil and nonfoil prices
  • Cardmarket (EUR) - with both foil and nonfoil prices
  • CardKingdom (USD) - with both foil and nonfoil prices
  • Cardsphere (USD) - nonfoil prices
  • Cardhoarder (TIX) - nonfoil prices for MTGO

This comprehensive marketplace coverage gives you a complete picture of the global MTG economy. You can easily switch between marketplaces to compare trends or focus on the one most relevant to you.

Marketplace Selection

Custom Market Search: Build Your Own Criteria

While the preset filters are powerful, I wanted to offer even more customization. That's why I've added a Custom Market Search feature that lets you define exactly what you want to track.

The custom search allows you to filter by any combination of:

  • Card attributes (name, type, color, etc.)
  • Specific sets or formats
  • Rarity and other characteristics
  • Keywords or oracle text
  • Mana value and color identity
  • Artist, border color, and more

You can also select your preferred marketplace, time period, card finish, and even result limit. The results will show you the price changes that match your exact criteria, sorted by biggest gainers and losers.

Custom Market Search

This feature is particularly useful for players and collectors who focus on specific niches within Magic. For example:

The possibilities are virtually limitless, allowing you to zero in on exactly the information you need for your collection strategy.

Advanced Search Updates

In addition to the Market Trends improvements, I've also enhanced the Advanced Search capabilities with new printing preference options and sorting functionality:

  • Latest non-promo (default): Shows the newest regular printing of a card
  • Latest printing: Includes the newest printing, even if it's a promo
  • First printing: Shows the original printing of the card
  • All printings: Displays all versions without grouping by name

These options help you find exactly the versions you're interested in. For example, you can now easily search for white-bordered planeswalkers and sort them by nonfoil price in descending order.

Community-Driven Development

These enhancements came directly from community feedback. After sharing MythicHub on Reddit, many users requested more customizable market price tracking and expanded search options. I'm thrilled to deliver these features and continue building based on what the community needs.

Your Feedback Matters

As always, I built these features based on my own needs as a Magic player and collector, but I'd love to hear how you're using them. Have the new presets been helpful? What custom searches are you running? What other market tools would you like to see?

My project is still in its early days, so all feedback is welcome! If something isn't working as expected, please let me know, and I'll fix it as soon as possible. As a favor, I'd also appreciate if you could spend some time with the deckbuilder and collection manager and share your thoughts. You can import collections and decks from other popular apps to make getting started easier.
